WHY:

It’s a time to honor women’s contributions throughout history and reflect on the work that still needs to be done. The Women’s History Month 2025 theme celebrates women supporting and inspiring each other through education, mentorship, and leadership and recognizes the collective strength of those who have influenced our generations past and present.

ABOUT GUILD HOUSE HOTEL :

Our story begins in the early 1880s, at a moment the nation was speeding toward a progressive new century. Well, some of the nation was speeding forward — for American women, progress was still a struggle. They couldn’t vote, couldn’t own property once married, and were regularly refused service unless accompanied by a man. Even as more and more women had begun to enter the workforce, the idea of women working outside the home was still a controversial prospect.

Out of this controversy, a strong support system was born—The New Century Guild— an organization with more than 500 members dedicated to improving the lives of working women. This Guild spent many years calling our space on Locust Street their home.

To honor this important legacy, each room of our hotel is dedicated to women who inhabited the historic rowhome when it was the New Century Guild, a groundbreaking club formed in 1882 to support working women in the city. We honor and preserve the history of our location and work with women-owned businesses to source all amenities and prioritize them in partnerships as much as possible.
